Why do new cars have such little legroom?

I have drove many late model cars over the years and ended up driving all of them with the seat all the way back to where it almost touches the back seat. In my buddies Ford Ranger, I have the seat so far back, I am sitting in the extended cab part of the truck. My 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham doesn't have this problem. I am only 5ft10. How is anyone taller than me supposed to drive a new car?
